The Chimborazo is the highest mountain of Ecuador. It is considered easy to climb. Even beginners dare the ascent through ice and falling rocks. According to our guide, only two in ten make it to the top though. I did not.
Without the Brazilian and Peruvian rubber, the automobile could not have conquered the world in the first decades of the 20th century. On assignment for the German cooperation agency GIZ, I spent a week in the Peruvian amazonas following indigenous people who are rediscovering the knowledge of their forefathers about the rubber tree.
